Cantilever beam damping identification

Experiment setup

The test case is based on the experiments performed to validate the energy method proposed in [1] and [2]. A simple Matlab code is provided with the necessary documentation in order to apply the method to the three cases proposed. The code uses the measured accelerations and forces to identify an energy equivalent viscous damping matrix.

Experiments data

  • Undamped cantilever beam (Case 1)
  • Cantilever beam with air dashpot at DOF 8 (Case 2)
  • Cantilever beam with Coulomb friction at DOF 6 (Case 3)
